We all have experienced, in summertime, when the temperature goes unbearably high and so does the discomfort index, but just with a sip of cup of ice cold drink, all the tiredness and stress wash away. Those who are surviving the heat would shout “Iced Coffee!” and praise iced Americano as their “summertime besties.”

This summer, rePAPER is proudly introducing you to ‘STAY COOL’ and ‘FESTIVAL,’ cold cups that let you enjoy ice full of cold drinks, yet still eco-friendly.



Hot cups and cold cups, what’s so different?

To solve the inconvenience of condensation forms on the outer wall of the cold cup due to the difference in temperature between the inside and outside of the cup, cold cups are coated on both sides; once on the inside for waterproofing and once on the outside for water repellency.

Whereas hot drink cups are coated inside only for waterproofing. To prevent the cup from getting soggy and starting to fall apart, cold cups are coated on the outside as well to stop the water droplets forming outside to seep through the paper.



A cold cup, a plastic cup pretending to be a paper cup?

The PE coating of cold paper cups exceeds 46g/m, which is twice the amount of hot paper cups, when coatings applied on both sides for takeout cold cups. Cups like these are hard to recycle and do not decompose, which results in worse environmental problems than when using hot cups that are coated once.

If you ever wondered ‘why do paper cups feel like plastic cups’ at fast food restaurants, well, here is the answer. At this point, it might not be totally wrong to call it a plastic cup instead of a paper cup.



Differentiated eco-friendly technology in eco-friendly cold cup ‘STAY COOL’

Cold cups with RP-series coatings, developed from rePAPER, have eco-friendliness of both material recycling and organic recycling (home composting), just like hot cups, as well as excellent water repellency that is suitable for cold cups. Still, they are equipped with food contact safety and durability that clearly surpasses the limitation of existing cold cups.
