[Environmental Story in Media] A Common, yet Great Hero, ‘No Impact Man’

Image
The world is full of heroes such as Iron Man, Spider Man, Super Man, and Bat Man. The hero we would like to introduce today is a bit different from these superheroes. He is a real-life figure who is trying to fight for the environment without a superpower, ‘ No Impact Man ’ . ‘ No Impact Man ’ refers to a person who does not give any impact on the earth. In the documentary film ‘ No Impact Man ’ , the main character Colin is a writer living in Manhattan, New York. He especially describes himself as an activist writer, not just writing a book. Then, how does Colin reflect his spirit on actions? He wants to contribute to the world with his work that is written based on his actual actions and experience. While he was considering a theme of environmental protection for his next book, he came up with an idea for this project called ‘ No Impact Man ’ to live a year in an environment-friendly way and share his and his family ’ s real story. The first thing he removed from his life was TV. T...

rePAPER Validated World-Class Quality and Environment Management Systems with ISO Certificates!

Image
rePAPER once again achieved new certificates, ISO 9001 for Quality Management System and ISO 14001 for Environment Management System! First of all, let’s find out what ISO is and how it works. What is ISO? ISO stands for International Organization for Standardization. Since its foundation in 1947, ISO has developed international standards on products and services. Interestingly, the English abbreviation of the organization is not IOS, but ISO. As it is an independent international organization, they adopted the Greek word ‘isos’ which means ‘fair’ to demonstrate that it does not belong to a certain country or its language. ISO is a non-governmental organization with members of 165 countries. While it does not have any legal force, it does have a huge influence in the world that most of the suggested standards from the organization have been institutionalized. Particularly, the Republic of Korea was honored to be a part of non-permanent members for ISO in 2019. As a non-permanent ...

How rePAPER Celebrated Its 7th Foundation Day

Image
July is a special month to rePAPER, an environment-friendly paper coating solution company, for it is when we made the very first step toward the environmentally friendly packaging industry. rePAPER has been aiming to replace conventional plastic-coated packaging, which disturbs the world’s environment and ecosystem, to recyclable and compostable paper-based packaging. Although we wished to have a proper ceremony with all the REPA members gathered, it did not seem to be appropriate considering the current COVID situation that we decided to celebrate the day from where we normally belong.   rePAPER held a small event titled ‘Making an Acrostic Poem’ with the name of representative for our environment-friendly coating line-ups, RP200. As a gift certificate was promised, every member was trying to come up with the most creative poem until the very last minute. Finally, Mr. Yoon announced the honored winner, who turned out to be Mr. Park from the marketing team. He said Mr. Park’s ...

[Special Article] Everything About Plastic and Our Choice For Tomorrow 3. World’s Movement to be Plastic-free_2 (Asia, Africa, and the Middle East)

Image
In general, we think that the environmental concern and movement start from advanced countries. The major issue of plastic waste these days is also considered the same. It sounds reasonable considering how these countries can afford financial support for proper waste treatment systems and for establishing the resource circulation system. They also provide education and campaigns to enhance community awareness for a sustainable society.   However, the consequence of environmental pollution is not limited to a certain area in the world and it is brought up as a global issue to be solved. This urgently led other countries to involve more actively.   Asia Ever since China stopped the import of plastic waste in 2018, many other countries in the continent started their war against plastics, too. After losing a giant waste dump, advanced countries looked for areas to toss theirs and the amount of much more than one could handle. In the end, countries such as Malaysia, the P...
