SEBAU Campaign Encountered on the Olle Trails in Jeju

When the autumn sky was beautifully clear and high, Jeju Olle Walking Festival began its 23-day journey on October 23rd. As rePAPER has closely been connected with Jeju Olle Foundation for SEBAU campaign, we visited Jeju island to sponsor the festival with our environment-friendly products as well as to discuss the SEBAU campaign.

After arriving at Jeju on November 13th, rePAPER’s marketing team had a meeting for the campaign with the team of Jeju Olle Organization, president Ahn, the managing director Mr. Lee, and Mr. Ko, the researcher, at Jeju Olle Tourist Center located in Seoqwipo-si. The SEBAU campaign is intended to complete the resource circulation cycle, enhancing the value of the disposed resource that it can be a promising suggestion for those who are struggling with plastic waste. We grasped the current situation of the SEBAU campaign and discussed the ways to draw more meaning results.

The next day, we headed to the route 5 of Olle trails to join the walking festival. Due to COVID19, the participants were divided into a group of 15 for 23 different Olle routes. It was the last day of the festival on November 14th and Jeju Olle’s partners and supporting companies were invited to celebrate the grand finale.

The squids dried by sea breeze, a beautifully wooded trail in a forest, and the breathtaking emerald ocean along the trail made the journey quite enjoyable. In the middle of the route, a pop-up café offering drinks and snacks with the ocarina ensemble by the volunteers enriched the experience even more.

Passing by the low stone walls where appetizing tangerines were ripening, we encountered some of the SEBAU cafés and the environmentally friendly SEBAU cups that are made of our REPA COAT, too.

After hours of walking, we finally arrived at Neobbille, which means a wide stone in Jeju dialect and the participants gathered for lunch. Everyone had a relaxing lunch break with a small concert.

We couldn’t make it to the finish line due to the schedule, but it was reported that 56 people succeeded in completing the entire Olle routes (390km in total of 23 Olle routes) during the festival.

In fact, the walking festival included other campaigns, too; Clean Olle is to clean the trails while walking, when SEBAU campaign is to use 100% recyclable paper cups when the disposable cups are absolutely needed. There was a campaign to encourage people to pick up the butts and many local shows and programs were included.

As we personally experienced the amazing beauty of the Olle trail, it became much more clear how it is important to protect and preserve nature. We hope this precious and valuable environment stays with us longer through the efforts like SEBAU campaign to regain the value of resource.
